Lighting remote control

Setting the lights for a show often means physically moving them to different locations and/or changing their direction or filters. In these situations it is convenient to have a method of turning individual lights on or off without going back to the lighting box.

Magic Q provides a method of doing this with a smart phone or tablet. Go to either the Google store or the Apple store and download the magicQRemote app to get started. The Magic Q manual section "Remote Control of Magic Q" details the steps needed to create limited control on your phone or tablet.

In the remote control app, the most useful windows are "Exec" and "Intensity".

"Exec" shows cue stacks that have been set up to turn on each light individually. It is laid out as an approximate map of the expected location of the lights. However, because cue stacks can be removed or overwritten and lights may have been moved, there is a possibility that it may not be accurate.

"Intensity" is less diagrammatic but each light is listed and it is independent of any cue set up.
